How to practice COVID-19 vaccination
For adults 50+ or with heart, lung, or immune issues, staying up to date still offers clear protection from severe illness. For younger, healthy adults, decisions can be individualized. Discuss benefits and uncertainties with a trusted clinician rather than relying on headlines.
The evidence behind COVID-19 vaccination
Severe COVID infection can cause lingering “brain fog” and higher rates of later cognitive problems. Vaccination sharply reduces hospitalization and severe inflammation, which are the main drivers of that risk. mRNA technology has been studied for decades but used at large scale only since 2021, so we don’t yet have long-term data on lifetime brain outcomes. Some experts believe the benefits clearly outweigh risks; others remain cautious because of rare side effects and limited long-term experience.
