Unlimited cognitive assessments

Keep a pulse on your brain's capabilities

Assessments that feel like games

We use the same cognitive assessments used by scientists and clinicians worldwide. The only difference is they're more fun to do.

See your brain improve in real time

We don't expect you to take our word on your improvements - witness the impact you're having on your brain's abilities.
BetterBrain recommends testing your cognitive abilities at least once every three months, and your membership comes with unlimited testing.

Know your DNA

A common mutation in the gene for apolipoprotein-E (APOE) is a major risk factor for Alzheimer's and influences treatment decisions.
Understanding your APOE genotype can provide valuable insight into your risk, actions you should take, and family planning.

Because deciding whether to do genetic testing is a very personal decision, we’ve made it optional with our membership.

    FAQs

Are Alzheimer's disease and other dementias preventable?

    keyboard_arrow_right
While there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, the science around prevention has progressed tremendously over the past few years, as detailed in our Science section. A landmark study suggested that ~40% of cases are preventable, but many experts believe this is an underestimate given they did not consider important factors such as sleep, hyperhomocysteinemia, among others. What's more, implementing these brain health strategies has clear short term cognitive benefits (25% improvement per the landmark FINGER study) and improves many other aspects of your health.

What are some things I can do to reduce my risks for developing Alzheimer's disease?

    keyboard_arrow_right
As each person’s genes, family history, lifestyle and exposures are unique, so too are our risks for developing Alzheimer’s and other age-related diseases. The most effective interventions to reduce risk for a disease depends on these factors. A visit to the Memory & Healthy Aging Program will be the best way to identify personalized ways to promote brain and physical health.

I get lab tests every year at my annual physical. How is this different?

    keyboard_arrow_right
BetterBrain's battery of tests go far beyond the tests your PCP asks you for each year. Our panel of tests has been carefully assembled and vetted by leading physicians to provide a comprehensive view of your brain health. Unfortunately, many of these tests are inaccessible to most people given doctors are typically less focused on long term prevention, while insurance companies require "medical necessity" which usually requires existing symptoms.

How soon after joining can I get tested?

    keyboard_arrow_right
You should be able to get tested within a few days. As soon as you're signed up, you can walk into any Labcorp near you or schedule a mobile phlebotomy visit so you don't have to leave your home.

How long after testing will I get my results?

    keyboard_arrow_right
Your bloodwork will typically be available within 3 days of your blood draw. Genetic testing may take slightly longer - you should expect your results within 1-2 weeks of sending your saliva sample.

Why do you ask if I'm experiencing specific symptoms before buying a test?

    keyboard_arrow_right
We want to make sure that you are healthy when you start on your BetterBrain journey.  The symptoms we mention are typical signs of acute illness. Our tests are not meant as diagnostic tools, and you should consider reaching out to a healthcare provider for treatment. Moreover, any illness you are experiencing may throw off your baseline, so it is best to wait until you are at your usual health to ensure your results are accurate.

I already have my own doctor, how does BetterBrain fit in?

    keyboard_arrow_right
BetterBrain aims to integrate seamlessly into your existing care and help you navigate the broader healthcare system. We do not intend to replace the work of your physician and believe it is important for all to maintain a relationship with a primary care doctor.

Who will have access to my results?

    keyboard_arrow_right
We restrict access to results on a need-to-know basis. Namely, your results are available only to you, the ordering physician (who will contact you directly for any critical results), and your health coach if you are receiving coaching.

Please note that in some cases, clinicians and laboratories must report specific test results to state health authorities for disease tracking and prevalence.

How do you keep my health information safe?

    keyboard_arrow_right
We know that health information is some of the most sensitive data available. BetterBrain takes privacy and security very seriously, and as such adhere to high standards for digital, physical, and administrative security measures that guard your data against unauthorized access. All of our staff are trained on HIPAA regulations regularly to make sure we're working together to protect your information.

Please refer to our Privacy Statement for more details.

Will a physician be reviewing my results?

    keyboard_arrow_right
Yes, a medical doctor will review results from your lab tests and call you directly if there are any critical values in your results. Otherwise, your resulted will be interpreted directly on our app and by your health coach.

    Is there a BetterBrain app?

    keyboard_arrow_right
Not currently. BetterBrain is a web application best accessed through a laptop or desktop computer, but we may look to develop a native app in the future.

Who are the BetterBrain health coaches?

    keyboard_arrow_right
Given we are in beta mode and want to give you the best possible experience, one of our co-founders and brain health experts will personally be your health coach.

How does BetterBrain's money-back guarantee work?

    keyboard_arrow_right
We firmly believe in the effectiveness of our approach, so much so that we're prepared to stake our own resources on it. We will issue a 100% refund if you've followed our recommendations and neither of the following success measures are achieved:
    1. Improvements in key blood biomarker(s) that are putting you at increased brain health risk (based on results from re-testing which typically occurs 1-3 months after initial baseline)
    2. Improvements in cognitive function scores (from test taken at least 1 month after implementing suggested interventions)

    Is BetterBrain covered by insurance?

    keyboard_arrow_right
BetterBrain is not reimbursable by insurance. This means we can offer you full transparency on our prices: no deductibles, no copays, no surprise bills.

Do I need a referral to join BetterBrain?

    keyboard_arrow_right
Not at all. BetterBrain is right for anyone looking to improve their brain health and brain performance. The sooner you set a baseline understanding for your body, the easier it will be to see your health trends and establish lasting habits that empower and safeguard your brain.
