Credentials and background at a glance
Who is Dr. Tommy Wood?
Dr. Tommy Wood is a neuroscientist, physician, author, and performance consultant whose work focuses on how the brain develops, adapts, recovers, and stays resilient across a lifetime. He trained across three leading European universities — a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, a medical degree from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in physiology and neuroscience from the University of Oslo — and now runs a laboratory at the University of Washington studying brain health across the lifespan, including neuroprotective approaches for the injured developing brain. Alongside his academic career, he has spent more than a decade advising high-performance athletes, including Olympians, world champions, and Formula 1 drivers.
His 2026 book, The Stimulated Mind, lays out a practical framework for lifelong brain health built around what the brain needs to thrive: meaningful stimulation, adequate physiological supply, and the support systems that enable recovery and adaptation.

How do you keep my health information safe?
We know your health data is some of your most valuable information. That's why we hold a high bar for data privacy and security, and composed a team of experienced leaders who have built secure data systems in the past:
- One of our co-founders built a secure healthcare platform containing data from over 140M Americans and 7 of the largest health systems in the country
- Our chief engineer built the data infrastructure that housed 15% of all COVID test results in the US, including for members of congress and the Department of Defense. Through his work with electronic health record companies, he ensured the security of ~10% of the US population's healthcare data.
All of BetterBrain's staff are trained on HIPAA regulations, and we use these experts' technical knowledge to constantly enhance our digital, physical, and administrative security measures.
