Did the fog appear after a change in sleep? Does it get worse after meals? Is it constant or does it fluctuate? Are you taking a medication that can affect attention? Do your B12, ferritin, thyroid, glucose regulation, or inflammatory markers add useful context? The goal is not to force every symptom onto a lab result. It is to narrow a vague complaint into a few plausible places to look, then decide what is worth addressing first.
What the evidence says
Sleep is a major lever. Controlled studies consistently show that insufficient sleep affects attention, working memory, and reaction time. It is worth ruling out before assuming something more complicated is going on.
Reference ranges need context. A result being inside a laboratory reference range does not automatically explain whether it is relevant to your symptoms. Interpretation depends on the marker, the person, the clinical context, and the rest of the data.
What you can do about it
Start with the basics that are both high impact and easy to test. For two weeks, make sleep a real experiment. Keep a consistent schedule, aim for enough total sleep, and pay attention to whether your thinking changes.
